Abstract

Women and men are inherently different. The concept of ‘gender’, defined as the social roles, codes and qualities set for women and men in societies where the understanding of hegemonic masculinity is dominant, has been seen to have evolved negatively within the norms of today’s masculine social order, when the female gender is considered. Due to gender inequality, uneducated women, especially in rural areas, who make up half of the world’s population, work in low-wage jobs, treated as second-class citizens. For this reason, rebuilding gender equality is of vital importance. The ‘Gig Economy’, a labor market formed by short-term or freelance jobs on digital platforms with a structure different from traditional business models, brings with it many opportunities, especially for women. Defined as temporary and independent services, the gig economy activates earnings in return for labor on a project basis in the short term, and contributes to the increase in women’s employment in technology by allowing women to work remotely with its digital infrastructure.
