Supply Chain Integration and Control Tower Approach within the Scope of Efficient Consumer Response

Özet

Global supply chains have become increasingly complex due to expanding supplier networks, fluctuating demand patterns, variable transportation conditions and the accelerated pace of digital transformation. These dynamics directly affect key performance areas such as production-line efficiency, delivery reliability and the overall synchronization of supply chain operations. As a result, organizations face a growing need for management structures that can provide uninterrupted information flow, multi-stakeholder coordination and timely decision support across the entire chain. Within this context, the Supply Chain Control Tower (SCCT) has gained prominence in the literature as a digital architecture offering real-time visibility, data consolidation and centralized monitoring capabilities. However, existing studies predominantly examine the control tower as an internally oriented operational tool, while dimensions such as cross-organizational data alignment, collaborative decision-making, integrated delivery performance management and multi-tier supplier coordination remain relatively underexplored.

This study revisits the control tower concept by considering the broader themes of economics, management, business and social sciences that frame the context of contemporary supply chain challenges. Building on this perspective, the study proposes a “Collaborative Visibility Model,” designed to align the control tower structure with the principles of Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) and to facilitate end-to-end transparency and integration. The model is organized into four foundational layers: data integration, shared visibility, collaborative evaluation processes and operational agility. These layers collectively support monitoring of production efficiency, proactive management of delivery times, early detection of transportation delays, stabilization of supply–demand alignment and improved responsiveness to operational risks.

The analysis incorporates sectoral illustrations from food, retail, logistics and automotive industries. These examples demonstrate that when data-sharing mechanisms are properly structured, supply chains achieve improvements in traceability, production flow stability, timely disruption detection and overall coordination across organizational boundaries.

In conclusion, the study provides a holistic perspective that extends beyond firm-level visibility and emphasizes collaborative structures as a central component of effective control tower architectures. This integrated approach offers conceptual contributions to the literature and practical insights for enhancing production efficiency, delivery performance, operational resilience and strategic coordination in global supply chains.
