Purpose: Our study aimed to compare two different playing postures according to body posture, range of motion, problems caused by awkward movements. Material and methods: Thirty one undergraduate students who are studying flute in Gazi University Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education, Musical Education Branch were included in the study. Students placing the flute vertical by flexing the head laterally were investigated in the first group; ones placing the flute horizontally by abducting the shoulder consisted the second group. Demographic characteristics, playing-related musculoskeletal problems of the students were recorded and posture was analyzed according to video-based analysis. Results: According to analysis related with problems and posture, the results of the first group were found better than the second group. All students had problems in neck, back, second left finger and fifth right finger where posture analysis reflected the problems. Problems in chin and mouth area were significant in the second group where difference between groups was statistically meaningful (p< 0.05). During assessment, many factors effecting musicians like thumb position, place of music stand, excessive oscillation or static posture of body which may be overlooked in the clinic were found. Conclusion: The position of the first group which was found better can be preferred by musicians. However, to decrease playing-related problems, education should be given to prompt the use of the body in good posture.
