Özet
The transition from a linear to a circular economy is critical for mitigating resource depletionand environmental impacts. The built environment, responsible for significant materialand energy consumption, plays a pivotal role in this transformation. Within this context, architecture emerges as a key discipline, as design decisions made at early stages determinethe environmental performance and lifecycle outcomes of buildings. Despite the growingrecognition of circular economy principles in practice, their integration into architecturaleducation remains limited. This paper addresses this gap by examining strategies forembedding circular thinking within architectural curricula, with a particular focus on the designstudio as the core pedagogical space shaping future architects’ values and competencies.Through a review of literature, analysis of existing educational models, and exploration ofcase studies, this study identifies challenges and opportunities for fostering systemic,lifecycle-oriented design approaches in studio-based learning. This research argues that thedesign studio offers a unique platform for cultivating material awareness, adaptability, andregenerative design strategies. Building on these insights, the paper proposes a frameworkfor integrating circular economy principles into architectural design studios, aiming to equipstudents with the skills necessary to design for reuse, flexibility, and closed-loop systems. Byrethinking architectural education, this study contributes to advancing circularity in the builtenvironment and supports the broader transition toward a sustainable future.
