Abstract

Internet of Things (IoTs) are one of the important technologies which can increase the quality of human life in smart cities. Smart Cities are the municipalities which try to increase the quality of government services such as health, security, traffic/transportation, waste management, water/electricity distribution, etc. for increasing the welfare of the citizens in that city. In this study, one of the important targets of smart cities, the traffic problem, is discussed and a solution by using multi Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is proposed which aims to detect traffic jams in the city by continuously capturing images from different locations. For this solution there is a need to plan the path of the UAVs which will fly over the city and check critical points in a smart city which are critical according to different needs such as traffic jam, accidents reports, controlling the physical situation of some roads (or road parts), tracing some vehicles, etc. Therefore, in the proposed system these points are checked by the system admin or stored/loaded as a text file and then the feasible path for a number of UAVs (such as 1,2 and 4) are calculated with the use of an evolutionary algorithm as Genetic Algorithm. The experimental results showed that the proposed systems produce feasible and efficient UAV based traffic solutions.
